LASER CERTIFICATION TYPES
Successful Candidates will earn the right to utilize the
following designations:
Refer to the Candidate Handbook for specific requirements. (must have
adobe reader)

CLRT – Certified Laser Repair Technician
Oriented toward Biomedical Engineers in the area of Laser
maintenance and repair.
·
CLSO/M - Certified Laser Safety Officer (Medical)
The health care facilities appointed Laser Safety Officer.
Responsible for management of the institutions laser program. May include but
not be limited to nurses, biomedical engineers, technicians, administrators,
industrial hygienists or environmental safety managers. Laser Safety Officers
are required by ANSI to be appointed in ANY facility that uses lasers on people
- including small offices or medical spas.

CLO/S – Certified Laser Operator / Surgical
A laser operator in surgically related environments including
inpatient & outpatient surgery, endoscopy, surgical centers and offices
performing minor surgical procedures.

CLO/O – Certified Laser Operator / Ophthalmic
A laser operator in an ophthalmology department or clinic setting
generally providing slip-lamp based outpatient treatments, but may also included
intra-operative laser use, indirect laser ophthalmoscopes, etc.

CLO/A – Certified Laser Operator / Aesthetic
A laser operator oriented toward aesthetic type medical
practices. This certification incorporates the area of laser hair removal. The
CLO/A certification is generally oriented more toward medically related
operators and is more encompassing than the specific CLO/H certification for
hair removal. The CLO/A operator might be running equipment for a variety of
dermatological laser procedures, where the CLO/H is specifically limited to
laser hair removal.

CLO/H – Certified Laser Operator / Hair Removal
A laser operator oriented
specifically to
Laser Hair Removal in areas such as medical spas, physician offices, cosmetology
and aesthetic centers, etc.. It is a more limited type of certification than the
CLO/A and is oriented more toward medical assistant types of operators rather
than medical professionals.

CLO/V – Certified Laser Operator / Veterinary
A laser operator in a veterinary environment. This certification
effectively mirrors the requirements for surgical laser operators.
*Note that designation of the world "Laser Operator" does
not necessarily imply clinical treatment. This designation is for the person
setting up and operating the control panel of the laser for the clinical end
user, although in some situations they may be the same when properly authorized
by supervising physicians or medical personnel.
Successful Candidates in any of these categories earn the
right to utilize the designation “NCLE Laser Certified™”, by Professional
Medical Education Association.
